Our mission

SIRUM (Supporting Initiatives to Redistribute Unused Medicine) is a social enterprise committed to expanding healthcare access for those in need.

Our story

One in four Americans don’t refill the prescriptions they need to stay healthy due to cost. At the same time, up to $11 billion in unopened, unexpired medicine goes to waste every year. This is a huge injustice.

Incubated at Stanford University, SIRUM leverages the power of technology to save medicine to save lives. As the nation’s largest redistributor of surplus medicine, we help organizations like health facilities and pharmacies to donate their unused medicine and get it to where it’s needed most, via a network of community partners who dispense to patients.

Our model

1

Individuals and organizations donate their surplus medicine instead of destroying it.

2

SIRUM matches donated medicine to community partners who need it.

3

Community partners provide donated medicine to patients who otherwise wouldn’t have access.

Our impact

We’ve already helped 150,000+ uninsured and underinsured patients get access to life-saving medicine – and we’re just getting started. Our vision is to get nearly $1 billion of medicine to 1 million patients over the next five years.

Access to healthcare is something Tom cares deeply about, so SIRUM is a great fit. Prior to deciding on a career in software engineering, he received a Bachelor's degree in Music Technology, and originally planned on becoming a teacher. In his third year of his degree, he discovered that programming was a much better fit, and never looked back.

When he is not spending time with Mercury, he enjoys playing the guitar and piano, compositing and recording music, photography, cooking, electronics, and woodworking. Tom is originally from the UK and moved to the US in 2019.
